Personal: 2019 Family Road Trip Across the USA

My husband, dog, and I just returned from a phenomenal 3 week, cross-country road trip. On our first day of driving, I downloaded an app that tracked which states you’ve been to / how much you have a connection to that state. I had been to 27 states. Turns out my husband had been to every state except Alaska! Let me tell you, we did a LOT of traveling in these 3 weeks. By the end of the trip, I had added 9 more states to my list – Indiana, Missouri, Iowa, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, South Dakota, Nebraska. We ended up driving over 8,000 miles!

My favorite parts of the trip, in no particular order…

  • Spending time with my man and my dog

  • Visiting friends we don’t normally get to see

  • Seeing our friend’s cattle ranch in Missouri

  • Learning to ski from the most awesome Jimmy (age 77!!!) in Jackson Hole

  • BISON!!!

  • Ending the trip seeing both sides of the family at my in-laws’ house

  • Making new friends during my ski class and promising to visit each other

Other random, notable moments

  • Braving negative temperatures for over a week and half

  • Skiing 4 days over our trip

  • Learned that La Quinta is one of the few hotel chains that doesn’t charge a pet fee

  • Found an amazing second-hand athletic store in Bozeman, Montana. We totally geeked out.

Okay, so maybe the BISON were a huge highlight of the trip, just because seeing them had been on my bucket list for a long time. Fun fact: American Bison is native to North and South America and Europe, while the other two buffalo species reside in Africa and Asia. (I had been calling the American ones buffalo before this trip!)

Anyway, here are some of my favorite shots of the bison:

When the coast was clear, we jumped out of the truck and got a photo of me WITH THE BISON!
